Rayo can breathe: Audero returns with Indonesia but stays on the bench
Audero recovered from an injury scare and returned to Indonesia’s squad for Malasia, but Maarten Paes started in goal.
Tomás Agustín Audero returned with Indonesia and was on the bench in their match vs Malasia on Monday, September 28. He hadn’t played against Singapore due to minor fitness problems, after Indonesia coach John Herdman flagged the issue ahead of that game.
As reported by MARCA, Audero trained normally again and was included in the squad for the second Asia Cup match. Herdman said they would assess both Audero and defender Dean James (who played 82 minutes) before deciding who would start.
In the end, Indonesia went with Maarten Paes in goal. The match finished 0-0, with Indonesia playing with 10 men from the 37th minute after Thom Haye was sent off. Indonesia’s next game is against Bangladesh on October 1, with Rayo already having lost Augusto Batalla in the league after a second match.
