Real Madrid hits back at Juanma Castaño with a social media video

The club targets COPE journalist Juanma Castaño, compiling past controversies after a dispute over comparing RMTV with Gara.

Real Madrid has opened a media front on social media against COPE journalist Juanma Castaño, director and host of ‘El Partidazo’. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the club posted a report produced by its own channel, RMTV, aiming to respond to what it claims are controversies involving the presenter over recent years.

The club’s counterpunch

The trigger is that, this week, Castaño acknowledged he was wrong when he compared RMTV with Gara, a newspaper linked to ETA’s active years. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, the Real Madrid side believes that apology wasn’t enough. That is why, in an uncommon move, the club used official video content to list episodes it considers to be relevant.

One case they highlight

One of the moments included in the video concerns the Real Madrid run to the 2018 Champions League semi-finals against Juventus. The club recalls a penalty involving Lucas Vázquez, which Castaño reportedly described as “Escándalo Mundial”. In doing so, Real Madrid says that, under its view, the journalist “lies, manipulates, points and harasses”, referring to comments he allegedly made about RMTV.

In football terms, this looks like an escalation rather than a one-off spat: the club is now framing the conflict as a broader pattern. Mundo Deportivo notes that the issue “crosses a line” and suggests it won’t simply fade away, aligning it with the stance attributed to Florentino Pérez regarding the media.
