Real Zaragoza names its four captains for the season

Real Zaragoza has already set its captains for the season, right as the league is about to reach its fifth matchday. According to Sport, the club will line up with Ander, Tachi, Escudero and Rubén Díez as the four official captains for this campaign, starting this Friday’s game against Ibiza.

A leadership change

Until mid-August, the initial plan was for Francho to be the first captain and Ander the second, following what had been communicated during pre-season. But after Francho left for Getafe, Sport explains that the Vasco midfielder—back at the club this summer after leaving in 2011—will be the main one in charge of the armband.

Sport also notes that Ibai Gómez said on Cadena Cope at the start of pre-season that two of the four captains would be Francho and Ander, chosen by the dressing room, while the coaching staff would select the other two. After Francho’s departure, Tachi took his place, something that was confirmed from the Virgen del Pilar offering on August 21.

Experience and returnees

The rest of the captaincy group, as Sport outlines, is made up of Tachi, a central; Escudero, included for his experience; and Rubén Díez, who left Zaragoza’s academy in 2016 and has returned to play for his hometown.

Sport adds that although Lucas Terrer wore the armband for the final minutes in the match against Juventud de Torremolinos, the club’s official list remains those four. As a comparison, last season’s captains were Francho, Guti, Keidi Bare and Iván Calero, and the departure of Iván Calero at the end of August 2025 eventually led to the armband being taken over by Toni Moya.
