Referees’ union rules out Mourinho complaint to Disciplinary

This Monday, according to Mundo Deportivo, the referees’ union AESAF and the CTA’s legal department were weighing whether to file a complaint with the Disciplinary Committee over statements made by José Mourinho after the Madrid derby between Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid.

Complaint put on hold

The initial plan was to pass his remarks to the federation department so that an inquiry could be opened, potentially leading to a sanction. But after deliberating throughout Monday, the outlet says they have ultimately decided to drop the matter “for now,” with no further action.

In particular, Mundo Deportivo notes that Mourinho’s comments targeted the main referee, Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias, and especially the VAR official, Daniel Trujillo Suárez. The Portuguese coach questioned the referee’s credentials, stressing that he is not an international official and that, at 41, he had not refereed a major game.

Mourinho also cited past-season episodes involving Madrid connected to the match management in that VOR/VAR area.

No punishment for Mourinho

With no case opened, Mourinho is spared a potential ban. Mundo Deportivo adds that, if the file had gone ahead, the penalty could have reached four matches and a fine ranging from 601 to 3,005.06 euros.
