A celebration that sparked trouble

Liam Rosenior found himself at the centre of a very tense match ending after Paris FC-Strasbourg, with the Paris side leading 2-0 and the coach going to celebrate in front of the away end once the result was in the bag. As reported by RMC Sport, the situation had already turned heated during the game, with Rosenior being targeted by chants and insults from Alsace supporters, and it spilled over again after the final whistle.

“It went too far”

Rosenior didn’t deny that he understood the atmosphere, but he insisted his reaction shouldn’t have crossed a line. In comments relayed by RMC Sport / Ligue 1+, he said: “People who know me know I’ve always been respectful. I understand the context. But it went too far. Strasbourg is a great football club and I’ve always protected it. This kind of celebration is for all those reasons.” He added in his press conference: “There’s a small part of Strasbourg supporters who disrespected my family,” while stressing it was “only a small part”.

A heated finish

RMC Sport’s account describes Rosenior responding to the chants with taunting gestures — raising his hands and putting them behind his ears — after being provoked from the stands. The report adds that then several Strasbourg players approached him, including Doukouré, asking him to stop, which helped fuel the brawl that followed.

Pierre Lees-Melou, speaking on the incident, framed it as a human reaction: “He’s human. When you’re mocked and insulted for 45 minutes, you have to accept banter back. If the coach hadn’t been insulted or heckled, he wouldn’t have reacted.” Meanwhile, the Paris FC’s early-season form remains strong: three wins and two draws from five, and depending on results in other matches, they could even be in contention for the podium, per RMC Sport.
