Salah banned in England for failing to name driver

Mohamed Salah’s summer has brought big news on the pitch, but off it he has also taken a hit in England. As the BBC reported, a court imposed a six-month driving ban on the Egyptian forward following an incident from March 27 involving his Rolls-Royce.

Court case over the incident

According to the information cited by the BBC, the speed breach was recorded by a radar in Wilmslow (Cheshire): the car was clocked at 36 mph on a road with a 30 mph limit. The key point in the case, per the court documents referenced in the report, was that Salah allegedly did not inform the police who was driving when the vehicle was detected.

The BBC also states that Salah did not respond to the charge notice issued by the Cheshire Police and did not submit any legal arguments. In the hearing at the United Court of Warrington, he was ultimately found guilty.

Ban and fine

As explained by a tribunal spokesperson, the decision came because Salah did not provide the information needed to identify the Rolls-Royce driver. The ruling included the six-month driving disqualification and a fine of £1,044.

While that legal matter plays out, Salah has continued to deliver in Turkey: after leaving Liverpool this summer for Trabzonspor, he scored three goals against Galatasaray in a 4-0 win on Saturday. In total, he has seven goals in six league games, and his team is three points from the top of the table, according to Mundo Deportivo’s account.
