Samu Aghehowa returns to training with Porto after knee injury
Porto says Samu Aghehowa has resumed team training after a right-knee injury suffered on February 9, ahead of City in the Champions League.
Back to training with the squad
Porto arrives with encouraging news ahead of their home clash with Manchester City this Tuesday in the Champions League league phase opener. As the Portuguese club stated on Monday, Samu Aghehowa is now training with the rest of the squad after a right-knee injury sustained on February 9.
Cautious message from the coach
In a note published on its website, Porto explained that the forward completed an “integrated conditioned session” during Monday’s workout, the last training session before the match against City.
Even with progress, coach Francesco Farioli urged caution. In a press conference, he said that before Aghehowa can play again they need several sign-offs from the medical staff involved, adding that the player must be “evaluated every day.”
Still, Farioli highlighted the positive effect of seeing him close to the team, starting to train and “touch the ball,” describing it as extra motivation for everyone.
Injury background
Aghehowa, a 22-year-old Spanish international from Melilla, suffered a sprain in his right knee with an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the league “derby” against Sporting on February 9. As a result, he missed the rest of the season. Mundo Deportivo notes that his absence was a major blow for Porto; despite the setback, he finished last campaign as the club’s top scorer with 20 goals, 13 in the Primeira Liga.
