Sem Westerveld shines for Real Zaragoza: three clean sheets
The Netherlands goalkeeper has three matches without conceding in five league games and is signed through 2029.
Netherlands goalkeeper Sem Westerveld has been a key figure in his debut season with Real Zaragoza, keeping the net untouched in three of five league matches. Zaragoza picked up narrow wins at home against Antequera and Cartagena, and they also came away from Can Misses on Friday with a clean sheet versus Ibiza.
Three clean sheets in five
Westerveld also adds 182 minutes without conceding and has been the starting keeper since the summer, ahead of Anartz Peña in pre-season. After the win at Can Misses—where he again showed a small concern on coming out to defend—his run has only grown stronger.
Coach Ibai Gómez underlined his impact unprompted: "Quiero destacar la calma y tranquilidad de Westerveld, que viene de dudas que se generan fuera y ha demostrado que él no tiene ninguna".
In the Primera RFEF clean-sheet rankings, Westerveld is second, behind Cacereño’s Diego Nieves, who has conceded just one goal in five games. Westerveld arrived from MVV Maastricht (loan from AZ Alkmaar) and has signed with Zaragoza through 2029.
