Sevilla return to training with Vargas and Stassin still out
Sevilla kick off training on Tuesday at 17:30 and keep an eye on the Antonio Puerta Trophy against Aston Villa on Friday.
Sevilla resume work at the training ground this Tuesday at 17:30 after a short break, with the Antonio Puerta Trophy on the horizon: they play it this Friday against Aston Villa. Even so, the main focus of the afternoon session will be on the medical room, particularly the progress of Rubén Vargas (Sevilla) and Lucas Stassin (Sevilla).
Stassin, who had established himself as a starter after scoring on his debut versus Espanyol, was sidelined by a long adductor injury in his right leg and missed the trip to Barcelona. The club’s goal is to push recovery timelines so the Belgian forward can be available when the league restarts against Levante. Kike Salas also missed the Barcelona game and has used the break to get over his physical issues.
Vargas, for his part, only managed to play in the opening matchday of LaLiga and is now expected to test himself with the rest of the squad to assess the condition of his right knee, which has been troubling him for more than a month. He even travelled to Madrid for an additional check-up. Luis García Plaza summed it up by saying: «If we manage to recover Rubén’s best version, it has to be important for us».
