Simeone travels to Liverpool with 24 Atlético players
Atlético named its Champions League squad for the trip to Liverpool: Sorloth and Arnau Ortiz miss out, while Obed Vargas is back in the travelling group.
Atlético de Madrid is set for its first Champions League trip, heading to Liverpool for the visit to Anfield. The club departed this morning and will play on Wednesday against Andoni Iraola’s side in the first matchday of the league phase.
Squad for Anfield
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Diego Simeone won’t have Sorloth available due to a muscular contracture that has kept him sidelined for almost a month. Arnau Ortiz is also missing, serving a ban from 2024, when he was with Slask Wroclaw during a Conference League qualification match.
The key update is Obed Vargas, who had been left out of the squad for the game versus Bilbao. The outlet notes that his situation had been uncertain because the transfer window had closed only in the major leagues, but for now he returns to the travelling party.

Atlético’s 24-man squad includes:
- Goalkeepers: Oblak, Musso, Esquivel
- Defenders: Llorente, Pubill, Domínguez, Hancko, Le Normand, Cuti Romero, Grimaldo, Dani Martínez

According to Mundo Deportivo, Atlético will arrive at Anfield at 19:30 (one hour later in England). A press conference with Simeone and one player is scheduled three quarters of an hour before kickoff.
