Sonia Bermúdez recalls Oihane Hernández for Spain friendlies

Spain coach Sonia Bermúdez has named her squad for October’s friendlies against the United States, with the main change being the call-up of Oihane Hernández (Orlando Pride) at centre-back. The goalkeeping spots are again for Cata Coll (Barcelona), Misa Rodríguez (Arsenal) and Adriana Nanclares (Athletic Club).

Compared to the previous list, Olga Carmona and Jana Fernández are out, along with Aitana Bonmatí and Esther González. Carmona’s absence was considered certain due to injury, while Bonmatí’s availability depended on her recovery after almost two months out with complaints linked to the transsyndesmal fracture of the fibula that she underwent surgery for last season.

October friendlies

Spain will face the USA twice: Oct 10 in Washington and Oct 13 in Philadelphia (in Spain, during the early hours of Oct 13–14). In their last four meetings, the USA lead 3-1, with Spain’s most recent win coming in October 2022 when they won 2-0.

Clara Pinedo (Athletic Club) comes into midfield for Bonmatí, and in attack Ainhoa Marín (Real Sociedad) and Ornella Vignola (Everton) replace Esther González. The rest of the forwards are Salma Paralluelo, Claudia Pina, Vicky López, Edna Imade and Athenea del Castillo.
