Soubeir injured his ankle as Monaco debut ends at 22’

Anis Soubeir (19), making his first start for Monaco, couldn’t finish the match against Strasbourg. As L’Équipe explains, the Franco-Moroccan attacking midfielder was forced to come off in the 22nd minute after suffering an ankle injury in a clash with RCSA defender Jeyland Mitchell.

The early blow

The game came in Matchday 4 of Ligue 1, with Soubeir—developed at Metz before joining Monaco’s ranks—getting his first professional start. But the problem appeared very early: in a duel against Mitchell, he was unable to continue.

The French outlet adds that Soubeir was replaced by Matthis Abline—signed this summer for around €30m—right away in the 22nd minute.

Monaco will await the medical update

With the midfielder out so quickly, the immediate question is the severity of the ankle injury and how long he’ll be sidelined. The report also highlights that this season Soubeir had played all of Monaco’s Ligue 1 matches plus the Conference League playoff vs Górnik Zabrze, coming off the bench each time for a total of just over 140 minutes.

Now, that ankle setback is a new variable for Monaco’s early season planning: whether Soubeir returns quickly or needs a longer recovery, his role in the attacking rotation will likely be affected.
