England manager Thomas Tuchel played down defensive worries after the 3-2 defeat to Spain, arguing that the main issue came from creating problems for themselves with the ball. In the match, England were punished for key mistakes with goals from Lamine Yamal, Alex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal.
Tuchel noted that after a World Cup qualifying campaign in which they conceded nothing, England have now let in nine goals in their last three international games against Argentina, France and Spain. Even with the frailties shown versus top opposition, he insisted the root cause wasn’t their defensive setup, but errors generated in possession.
