Viale (Sabadell) fears a ‘release clause swoop’ and looks at a free agent

The sporting director of Sabadell, Lucas Viale, explained in a press conference how the club managed its summer window and why its focus now is on a new player after a squad spot opened up. During his assessment of the offseason, Viale described it as “much wear and tear” and detailed the workload behind building the team: 227 reports, 67 personal talks, and 55 negotiations to shape a squad aimed at surviving in LaLiga Hypermotion.

Salary cap as the key issue

According to MARCA, the biggest hurdle was the salary cap. Sabadell had just been promoted, so they initially had no fixed number, and it also shifted from week to week. Even so, Viale stressed they sit among the lowest salary limits in the division, while arguing they still put together a “competitive” and “very complete” roster, with players who can cover two or more positions.

Reinforcement, without overspending

After pointing to a strong early start—draws in Gijón and Castellón and a win over Almería—Viale admitted the concern that mattered most: “I feared they would do a release-clause push” (a “clausulazo”). The comment came in the context of the early-level shown by players such as Urri or Quadri.

In that scenario, Viale confirmed Sabadell is working to sign a free agent, using three possible plans to fill the vacancy and “raise the level” of the squad. He was also clear that the club will not go beyond its means: no “overexertion” and no spending more than they can afford. Viale added that the 16 summer signings were not due to instability, but because each year they had to make decisions to achieve the consecutive promotion run that returned professional football to the Nova Creu Alta.

MARCA notes that Sabadell views this league as one of the best competitions in the world, but believes the team is ready to take on the survival fight.
