Yann Gboho’s Kansas City move collapses

Yann Gboho will not be heading to Sporting Kansas City. L'Équipe reports that the Toulouse playmaker, who had been on the MLS side’s radar since early summer, is staying put after the talks broke down.

No deal in MLS

Gboho was absent for Toulouse’s 0-1 loss to Lille on Thursday, with a possible transfer having been a factor. Kansas City had been pushing for him since the start of the season’s warmer window, and the MLS deadline had been set for Wednesday night.

As the deadline approached, Toulouse president Olivier Cloarec told Ligue 1+ that they were “waiting” and that a resolution should come within hours, while admitting he didn’t know which way it would swing. The outcome arrived late: according to L'Équipe, the transfer collapsed for an unspecified reason.

What happens next

With the deal off, Toulouse can now look to have Yann Gboho rejoin the group soon, since he was not available for selection due to the transfer uncertainty. He remains under contract with the club until 2027, so exits are still theoretically possible during other transfer windows.

L'Équipe notes he could still move to places such as Turkey or Portugal (where the deadline is Friday night), or other markets with later cut-offs (including Saudi Arabia, Brazil), though it suggests the likelihood of another quick transfer is low. It also cites figures from American media indicating Kansas City’s pursuit could have brought Toulouse over €15 million if the move had gone through.
