Yuri Berchiche and Guruzeta steal the spotlight as Athletic return to training

Athletic kick off the week at Lezama with attention on Berchiche’s groin and Guruzeta’s muscle issue ahead of Rayo (Oct 10).

Athletic return to training today at Lezama after four days off, with the first session of the week starting at five in the afternoon. The main focus is on Yuri Berchiche and Gorka Guruzeta.

Berchiche was forced off injured in their league match against Alavés at San Mamés: he picked up a problem in his left groin after a run down the wing and was replaced in the 86th minute by Nico Serrano. The full-back still has time to recover for the next match against Rayo Vallecano in Vallecas on October 10.

Guruzeta didn’t train with the group last week either, dealing with muscular discomfort linked to the injury that kept him out of the game against Elche and meant he missed the squad for the visit to the Basque rivals. Today, five internationals are away with their national teams: Unai Simón, Laporte and Nico Williams (Spain), Djaló (Guinea-Bissau) and Padilla (Mexico).

Athletic also track Terzic’s progress: he joined training on Monday back from a muscle issue related to pubalgia, and the club will decide whether to include him in the next matchday squad. The team then plays the Euskal Herria Kopa final on Friday versus Real Sociedad at Anoeta, before resting Saturday and Sunday, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
