Zaragoza and CD Teruel face off in the Liga for the first time
The derby at Ibercaja Estadio comes as Zaragoza head in strong form: 12 points and just one goal in four straight wins.
CD Teruel and Real Zaragoza meet this Sunday at Ibercaja Estadio in an Aragon derby with no prior Liga meetings. Their only past knockouts were in the Copa, where Zaragoza won the 1985-86 second round 1-5 at Adolfo Masiá on 16 October 1985 and then 3-0 at La Romareda a week later.
As Sport points out, that Zaragoza side finished fourth in the league and lifted the Copa del Rey against Barcelona. The present-day contrast is sharp: Zaragoza target direct promotion under Ibai, while Kiko Ramírez’s Teruel are fighting for survival, with just two points.
In the usual pre-season clashes at Pinilla since the 2013 drop from the top flight, they’ve played six times: two draws and four Zaragoza wins. The most recent was on 21 July 2023, when Zaragoza won 1-2 with goals from Maikel Mesa and Azón.
