Agirrezabala: 'Racing is a very exciting project'

Racing de Santander has secured a top-tier goalkeeper. Julen Agirrezabala was officially unveiled on Tuesday following his move from Athletic Club, in a deal worth around €4 million that ties him to the Cantabrian side until June 2031.

The Basque shot-stopper made no effort to hide his enthusiasm at his presentation press conference. He revealed he consulted several former teammates including Peio Canales, Asier Villalibre and Unai Vencedor before accepting. «Racing's track record in Segunda is always at the top, with that goal of promotion. It's a very exciting project. All the feedback I've received has been very positive,» he said, per MARCA. He also praised the club's environment: «A very family-like club, a very healthy dressing room, competition that's healthy but also demanding».

Agirrezabala acknowledged that last season was «difficult both collectively and individually», but insisted he felt «strengthened as a player and as a person» and ready for the challenge. He defined himself for the fans as brave, comfortable managing distances with the defensive line and distributing the ball well, while keeping his core mission: stopping everything that comes between the posts.
