Real Sociedad accelerates efforts to sign centre-back Nayef Aguerd permanently after his successful loan spell last season.
Real Sociedad is speeding up its market moves to strengthen its defence, which conceded the most goals in La Liga last season. The latest name gaining traction is Nayef Aguerd, who already spent time at the Basque club on loan during 2024-25.
According to FootMercato, Real Sociedad has overtaken Al-Sadd in the race for the 30-year-old Moroccan centre-back. Olympique de Marseille, who signed him last summer for 23 million euros, needs to offload players to balance their books. The Donostia outfit are eyeing a loan with mandatory purchase option as their preferred structure, especially since they missed the window on a 15-million release clause that expired on July 31st.
Aguerd performed well during his previous loan and made clear his affection for the club: "I will continue to support and follow Real Sociedad, because it has left a deep mark on me," he said after leaving. He is now keen to return and has reportedly given the green light to negotiations, also attracted by the length of contract on offer. Rennes is also monitoring the situation.
