Akliouche, Zaïre-Emery and Doué start in the Supercup

PSG field three summer signings as starters against Aston Villa in the European Super Cup despite training for just three days.

PSG travel to the European Super Cup to face Aston Villa on Wednesday (21:00, Red Bull Arena in Salzburg) with a full squad and several surprises in the starting eleven. According to L'Équipe, Maghnes Akliouche, Warren Zaïre-Emery, and Désiré Doué will start in Luis Enrique's 4-3-3 formation, despite only returning to training on Monday following three weeks off after the World Cup. The latter two arrived as summer reinforcements, as did Akliouche, signed from Monaco for 50 million euros.

Ousmane Dembélé, Lucas Hernández, Bradley Barcola, and Lucas Digne are among those on the bench. Aston Villa, meanwhile, are depleted: manager Unai Emery, the former PSG coach, cannot call upon three World Cup squad members still on vacation (Emiliano Martínez, Ezri Konsa, and Ollie Watkins) or three injured players (Amadou Onana, Johan Manzambi, and Leon Bailey). The Birmingham side have Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes (40 million from Wolverhampton) as their sole summer signing in the lineup.

PSG aim for their second Super Cup title after defeating Tottenham (2-2, 4-3 after extra time) on August 13, 2025. The Parisians are double Champions League winners, while Aston Villa claimed the Europa League in May.
