Araujo joins Liverpool on loan with purchase option

Liverpool and Barcelona are wrapping up the loan deal for Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo for the season, with a purchase option built into the agreement, according to BBC Sport. The 27-year-old is expected to link up with the Reds this weekend.

Araujo arrives to strengthen a defence that has lost Ibrahima Konate, who joined Real Madrid as a free agent. The centre-back has been a cornerstone of Barcelona's project, making over 200 appearances since his 2018 move from Boston River. Despite serving as club captain last season, he featured in just 11 league matches, with Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi emerging as the preferred defensive pairing.
