Atletico Madrid promote Arnau Ortiz to first team

Atletico Madrid have confirmed the promotion of Arnau Ortiz to the first team following a standout season with Atletico Madrileño's development squad. The striker will wear the number 16 shirt in this new stage of his career, as reported by MARCA.

The 23-year-old Catalan winger, who arrived from Polish side Slask Wroclaw in September 2025, became the top scorer in Primera Federación with 23 goals and 6 assists across 38 matches. His brilliant performances were instrumental in a campaign where the B team came close to securing promotion to Segunda División.

Preseason proves decisive

Arnau Ortiz made the most of his opportunity during summer training and friendlies. Across four preseason matches, the player scored two goals—against Getafe and Manchester United—and provided one assist in the win over Olympique de Marseille. His performances convinced Diego Pablo Simeone, whose backing proved decisive in confirming his elevation.

Despite interest from clubs including Espanyol, Elche, and Racing, Simeone's faith in his work has secured Arnau Ortiz a place in the first-team squad.
