The Brazilian midfielder leaves Newcastle after clubs agree on the transfer fee.
Bruno Guimarães is set to leave Newcastle and join Arsenal for a fee of £75 million, as reported by The Guardian. The two clubs reached a compromise after Newcastle rejected an initial offer of £70 million on Monday. The Brazilian midfielder will travel from Newcastle's pre-season training camp in southern Spain to London to undergo his medical in the coming days.
Arsenal had initially aimed to pay no more than £60 million, while Newcastle demanded at least £80 million. Guimarães, who turns 29 in November and has two years remaining on his contract, was determined to join Arsenal even before Eddie Howe stepped down as manager last week. The player met with incoming manager Matthias Jaissle in La Manga but told him he wanted to leave and could not be persuaded otherwise.
Since arriving from Lyon in January 2022, Guimarães became integral to Newcastle's success, making 153 League appearances with 30 goals and 26 assists. Lyon will receive around £7 million due to a sell-on clause that entitles them to 20 per cent of any profit Newcastle make on the sale.
