Arsenal complete signing of Newcastle captain Guimaraes

Arsenal secure the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle to strengthen their midfield after winning the Premier League.

Arsenal are making their move to build on their Premier League triumph by signing Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes. According to BBC Sport, the deal brings the 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder to Emirates Stadium as part of Mikel Arteta's vision for taking the Gunners to a "different dimension."

Arteta specifically targets players with proven Premier League pedigree and physical resilience. Guimaraes fits both criteria perfectly. Since joining Newcastle in 2022, the Brazilian has become the club's talisman, with striking statistical evidence of his impact: when he plays, Newcastle's win percentage stands at 50.7% and they average 1.7 points per game; without him, those figures plummet to 12.5% and 0.7.

The move also addresses Arsenal's depth concerns in midfield following injury struggles last season. Guimaraes, who missed only 16 Premier League games for Newcastle since 2022, will rotate with Rice, Zubimendi and others without any quality drop. Beyond his defensive line-breaking ability—ranking in the league's top five—Guimaraes brings leadership credentials. Newcastle staff have called him an "inspirational" figure, a quality Arteta will rely on to establish a midfield capable of competing on multiple fronts.
