"We must reach another level, which will require us to be ambitious, quick and clever," the Gunners boss declared at the time, according to the French source.

Despite those words, the summer market has seen the London club in a waiting position, watchful for opportunities but lacking the aggression many expected after a dreamlike season. Defensive shortcomings and attacking options remain areas the club is eyeing to complete a squad aiming to compete across all competitions.
