Awer Mabil leaves Castellón for Melbourne City
The Australian winger closes his spell at the club after two years and returns to the A-League to be closer to his family.
Awer Mabil brings his time at CD Castellón to an end. According to Sport, the Castellón club and Melbourne City have reached an agreement for the transfer of the Australian winger, who returns to his country for a new chapter in the A-League.
The Australian international arrived at Castalia in February 2025 from Swiss club Grasshopper and made a significant impact in just two seasons. In his first half-season he provided six assists that proved crucial in securing the club's Segunda División survival, and in the following campaign he maintained his attacking threat with three goals and another six assists, bringing experience and pace down the flanks.
His farewell was particularly emotional in the dressing room. "I just want to thank everyone. The people here are very good. I'm sad to leave, but I need to be closer to my family," he explained amid applause. Mabil also acknowledged the bond created: "When I arrived I was going through a complicated moment in my life and I've been very happy over these last two years." The player regretted leaving mid-project: "Sorry for leaving in the middle of a project to get promoted to the First Division. You have all my support".
