Barcelona considers move for Rodri as Alvarez deal stalls

Barcelona are weighing up a challenge for Rodri if Manchester City allow his departure around £60m, while efforts to sign Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid remain stuck.

Barcelona are evaluating the possibility of entering the race for Rodri after seeing Real Madrid's negotiations with Manchester City hit a wall. According to The Guardian, City would be willing to let the Spanish captain leave for around £60 million, even though they still hope to convince him to renew his contract, which expires this summer.

Real Madrid have been in talks with the midfielder for weeks without reaching a deal to seal the transfer. Barcelona's interest emerges after Frenkie de Jong suffered a knee injury expected to sideline him for several months. Rodri, winner of the World Cup Golden Ball, would be a key piece to fill the void.

But Barcelona's headache extends beyond Rodri: their efforts to persuade Atlético Madrid to sell Julián Álvarez continue to bear no fruit. Atlético insist the Argentine striker is not for sale at any price, scupering the club's plans following Robert Lewandowski's departure.
