Barcelona join the race for Rodri

Barcelona have entered the race for Rodri and are hopeful they can beat Real Madrid to the signing of the Spain captain, according to Sky Sports News.

The World Cup winner is in the final year of his contract with City. While the Madrid side have already begun negotiations with the Citizens since last week and indicated they would be willing to offer £50m, Barcelona believe they have a genuine chance of sealing the deal if the player decides to leave.

However, Manchester City have no intention of selling their star man and are keen for Rodri to agree a long-term renewal that would allow him to lead the team into a new era under Enzo Maresca. The midfielder is currently recovering from back surgery and will miss the Community Shield and the opening Premier League fixture.
