The Malian defender becomes the youngest foreign player ever to make an official debut for the Granada side.
Malian centre-back Bourama Dembele has written his name into Granada history by becoming the youngest foreign player to make an official debut with the club's first team. According to Mundo Deportivo, the exceptionally young defender made his bow just recently at just 18 years and three months old in the match against Oviedo (0-0) in the first round of the Segunda División.
A record for the ages
Bourama started and played the full 90 minutes at the Carlos Tartiere stadium, delivering a solid performance and proving crucial in keeping a clean sheet for his side. With this debut, Dembele beats the previous record held by Venezuelan striker Adalberto Peñaranda, who made his Granada debut in 2015 at 18 years and five months old.
The Malian graduated from Granada's youth academy last season and joined the pre-season with the senior squad this summer due to a shortage of defenders, ultimately convincing manager José Rojo 'Pacheta' of his worth enough to earn a starting spot from day one. The African defender is tied to the club on a contract until 2028, though Granada still need to decide before the transfer deadline whether to loan him out to the B team or keep him directly in the senior squad.
