Stade Brestois sign Norwegian international Egil Selvik as their new number one following Grégoire Coudert's exit.
Stade Brestois have secured Norwegian international Egil Selvik as their new starting goalkeeper, arriving on loan with a mandatory purchase option from Watford, according to L'Équipe. The move comes after Grégoire Coudert departed with just one year left on his contract.
Coudert decided to leave after a season as first choice, following the disappointing campaign of Radoslaw Majecki (on loan from Monaco). «The market is made of changes, and fifteen days ago we felt he was attracted to another project,» explained coach Julien Lachuer, who acknowledged that at 27, Coudert had limited time left to secure his future. The club turned to the experienced Selvik (29 years old), a Norwegian international with eight caps who came off the bench during the last World Cup.
Reshaping the goalkeeper department
Selvik made his debut on Sunday in a friendly against Nottingham Forest (0-2), where Lachuer praised his «energy» and «quick integration» into the defensive system. «He's someone who brings reassurance, with more experience,» said the French coach, though he warned all goalkeepers need time to adapt to changes.
The reshuffle extends beyond the new signing: third-choice Noah Jauny has joined Francs-Borains in the Belgian second division. Brestois have also recruited teenager Noé Poillion (19) from Metz as fourth-choice keeper, with two more additions expected in the position before the season starts.
