Bruno Guimarães seals Arsenal move to boost midfield depth

The Brazilian midfielder completes his £75m transfer from Newcastle to give Arteta rotation options in a crucial position.

Bruno Guimarães is now an Arsenal player after the club confirmed his £75m signing from Newcastle, according to The Guardian. The 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder, visibly moved by his Newcastle departure, recognised that at his age the chance to join the Gunners might never come again.

When unveiled, the midfielder described himself as someone who can "pass the ball, run a lot and play like a warrior. I'll never give up." Arsenal's pursuit of Guimarães dates back years — predecessor Edu Gaspar first enquired about him at Paranaense in 2020, then again when Newcastle signed him in January 2022 for €40m. The deal provides cover for Declan Rice, who has battled neural pain in his hamstring and lower back since December, and offers Arteta more flexibility across the midfield.

Declan Rice welcomed him with a humorous message referencing their fierce battles on the pitch: "come here and please no more fights, now we're friends". Beyond his box-to-box capabilities, Guimarães is expected to add creativity to an attack that has struggled against defensive blocks.
