Chalobah closes Chelsea chapter and joins Como in €31m move

England defender Trevoh Chalobah ends nearly 20 years at Chelsea to sign for Serie A side Como in a €31 million transfer.

Trevoh Chalobah has ended his nearly two-decade association with Chelsea by completing a move to Como this summer. The 27-year-old English defender joined the Italian club for €31 million, according to BBC Sport, under the direction of manager Cesc Fàbregas.

Chalobah made 151 appearances for the Blues before departing, reaching a career-high of 47 matches in a single season during his final campaign. The centre-back will now attempt to help Como continue their remarkable ascent after the club climbed from Serie B to the Champions League in just two seasons.

Resilience through adversity

Chalobah's path at Chelsea was far from straightforward. He spent time in the "bomb squad" under former manager Enzo Maresca in 2024, was loaned out to Crystal Palace, and even questioned his own abilities as a youngster while training alongside Mason Mount and Declan Rice. "That's one of my attributes—being very, very resilient," Chalobah reflected from Como's pre-season base near London. "Not just in football, but in life, things happen which are sometimes out of your hands."

Fàbregas convinced him

The new Como boss, whom Chalobah knew from his academy days at Stamford Bridge, played a crucial role in the move. "He was a massive part," the defender said. "He explained what he wanted, how he sees the club, and how I can help with my experience, physicality and leadership." The transfer came despite competing interest from Inter Milan.

Departing without bitterness, Chalobah expressed his gratitude for his time in west London. "I always believed I could play for Chelsea no matter what. I'm grateful for every setback, every challenge, every trophy. I stepped in as a boy and leave as a man," he concluded.
