Chelsea are nearing a deal worth around £16.3m to sign left-back Pep Chavarría from Rayo Vallecano, with personal terms already agreed.
Chelsea are on the verge of completing an agreement with Rayo Vallecano for defender Pep Chavarría, according to BBC Sport. The two clubs are increasingly confident about finalising a move valued at approximately £16.3m plus add-ons, with the 28-year-old already having accepted personal terms.
Negotiations have stretched over nearly a month following Rayo's rejection of an initial £15m bid in late June. The La Liga side pushed hard during talks, even requesting the full £42.8m release clause at one point, though both parties have now found middle ground. Chavarría made his desire to join Stamford Bridge clear to his current club.
New manager Xabi Alonso has prioritised the left-back after facing him during his time at Real Madrid last season. The signing would pair well with fellow full-back Marco Palestra (£47m from Atalanta) and enable Alonso to implement the wing-back system that proved crucial to Bayer Leverkusen's 2024 Bundesliga title win.
