Córdoba CF begins new LaLiga Hypermotion season with rule changes

The 2026-2027 season will bring an important regulatory transformation to LaLiga Hypermotion that will directly affect how matches are played. The Technical Referees Committee (CTA) will implement from the outset a comprehensive package of changes designed to accelerate play and reduce time-wasting, according to Sport.

Among the most visible innovations is the substitution protocol: the replaced player will have only ten seconds to leave the field once the referee authorizes the change. If they exceed this without justified cause, the substitute must wait until the first stoppage occurring at least one minute after play resumes. The goalkeeper injury protocol also changes: if play stops to attend to the goalkeeper, the coach will designate a field player who must leave for one minute; if not, the captain automatically exits.

Another key modification affects penalties: if the taker accidentally touches the ball twice and scores, the penalty is retaken; if they miss or it's saved, it's deemed a miss without retake. The referee will also make a visible five-second countdown for deliberate delays in kicks: if they continue, the team automatically loses possession.

The VAR expands its powers: it can correct clearly wrong second yellows, identity errors, incorrectly awarded corners, and warn of serious misconduct before offensive set plays. Córdoba CF will start their campaign on August 16th against Burgos under this new rulebook.
