Coudert exits Brest after being replaced by Selvik

The Stade Brestois faces a change in goal. Following a 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in their final preseason friendly, manager Julien Lachuer confirmed that Grégoire Coudert is leaving the Breton club.

Coudert, who started preseason as the first-choice goalkeeper after solid displays last season, told the club fifteen days ago that he wanted to depart. At 27 and in the final year of his contract, the keeper has decided to seek fresh opportunities elsewhere. «Grégoire is being pursued and he will join another club,» Lachuer said according to L'Équipe, noting that Brest anticipated the move in the market.

Selvik arrives to fill the gap

The club already has a solution: Egil Selvik, a 29-year-old Norwegian international, arrived this week on loan from Watford with an obligation to buy. The goalkeeper already featured in the Forest match and, according to Lachuer, «performed his role perfectly».

The Brest coach acknowledged that he initially trusted Coudert to start the season, but admitted that «the transfer market is full of changes». «Perhaps he felt it was the right moment to take his career in another direction,» reflected Lachuer, satisfied that the club handled this departure smoothly.
