Cuenca closing in on Sporting in final hours

The operation is advancing. After Sporting president José Riestra confirmed that Andrés Cuenca remained on the table, the club has intensified talks with Como to formalize the return of the Andalusian defender, according to Sport. The centre-back is closer than ever, though the Gijón-based club is maintaining caution as the deal is not yet finalized.

Cuenca Cejudo (Adamuz, 2007) was formed in Barcelona's academy and joined Sporting last summer for his first major professional adventure. Despite a late-season injury, his performances were impressive and the club had already considered bringing him back for this campaign.

At Como, however, he is viewed as a major asset with room for improvement — his involvement in the Under-19 Euros confirmed those ambitions. Sporting are hoping to push the operation over the line in the coming hours so Cuenca can play for them this season.
