Dedic seals Newcastle switch for £29.5m from Benfica

The Bosnian right-back joins Newcastle as their sixth summer signing, reuniting with new manager Matthias Jaissle.

Amar Dedic has completed his move to Newcastle for £29.5 million, according to The Guardian. The 24-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international becomes the Magpies' sixth signing of a turbulent summer window and is set to start at right-back against Liverpool this Sunday.

Reunited with Jaissle

The chance to link up again with Matthias Jaissle, who managed him at RB Salzburg, proved decisive for the Benfica defender. "Working with Matthias again was a big factor for me," Dedic said. "We know each other well; he knows what I can bring to the pitch and I'm really happy to play for him again. It's a special feeling and a real honour to join Newcastle."

The timing suits Newcastle, who have lacked senior cover at right-back with Tino Livramento sidelined by a calf injury. Shortly after taking charge, Jaissle advised the club that Dedic could fill the void—a defender equally comfortable on the left flank who understands the German's tactical approach.

Other dealings

Newcastle are also in talks with Manchester City over signing midfielder Nico González, hoping to bolster their engine room after losing Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães. Elsewhere, Guglielmo Vicario completes a season-long loan to Juventus from Tottenham, with an option to make the move permanent.
