Atlético pushes hard for Cuti Romero

As we reported yesterday, Atlético Madrid remains in the race for Cristian 'Cuti' Romero. Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, the Madrid side has decided to accelerate negotiations after the player halted a deal between Tottenham and Inter upon learning the colchoneros were in the picture.

Atlético's first proposal of €30 million failed to convince Spurs, who demand €40 million to let their captain leave. Inter, meanwhile, are offering €35 million. Knowing this, the Metropolitano board is working to raise the offer and land the Argentine, who failed to join the Madrid club last summer.

Atlético is also pushing ahead with outgoings: negotiating the departures of Nahuel Molina (Roma), Matteo Ruggeri (Aston Villa), and Thiago Almada (River Plate) to create financial room. Simeone hopes Romero becomes the defensive piece the team needs after an inconsistent season in that area.
