The Madrid side are scouting the left-back as an alternative to Salinas to reinforce their defence.
With Matteo Ruggeri's transfer to Aston Villa confirmed, Atlético Madrid continue their hunt for a left-back to strengthen Diego Simeone's squad. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Atleti brass have turned their attention to Hugo Bueno, Wolverhampton's defender currently plying his trade in the Championship.
The Galician, 23, is not new to Atlético circles: director of football Mateu Alemany sees him as an alternative to Racing Santander's Jorge Salinas, whom the colchoneros are also pursuing. Racing's asking price is firm — 16 million euros, matching his release clause — while Barcelona's interest complicates matters further.
Physical prowess and versatility
Hugo Bueno has impressed at Wolverhampton for his physical attributes and technical ability. He left Galicia as a teenager and has become a key piece in the English side's setup. His market value sits around 12 million euros, though Wolves hope to command more for the player, who is contracted until 2028. A likely drop to the Championship could ease his departure, but not at a discount.
Beyond his athleticism, the lateral can play slightly further forward, much like Grimaldo does at the Metropolitano. Months ago, Hugo Bueno himself acknowledged that returning to Spain held enormous appeal. Interest from Celta Vigo — his hometown club — and Fiorentina is already on record. Atlético hope to settle the position before today's La Liga bow against Málaga.
