Barcelona explores signing Rodri from Manchester City

FC Barcelona is exploring the possibility of signing Rodri Hernández (30), the midfielder from Manchester City, according to The Athletic. The Blaugrana have initiated conversations with the player's representatives to understand what contractual conditions he would demand for a potential move.

The injury to Frenkie de Jong, who suffered a torn lateral ligament in his right knee at the World Cup and faces a lengthy absence, appears to have prompted Barcelona's interest. Rodri views a return to Spanish football positively, and Barcelona's project aligns perfectly with his playing style. The midfielder is already familiar with several Blaugrana players after representing Spain alongside them.

Rodri's contract with City runs until 2027 and he is the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, as well as being named best player at Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup. Real Madrid has also been linked with a move, though Barcelona has made the first concrete move. The Catalans would need to sell players to fund the operation.
