Celta loan defender Carlos Domínguez to Oviedo

Celta and Oviedo have reached a deal in principle for defender Carlos Domínguez to join the Blue-and-Whites on loan at the Carlos Tartiere for the 2026-27 season, according to EFE sources close to the negotiations. The 25-year-old central defender has prioritised dropping down a tier to gain more minutes, despite receiving offers from La Liga clubs.

The defender, who still has two years remaining on his Celta contract, had limited opportunities last season with just 8 league appearances, 3 Europa League matches and 2 Copa del Rey outings, totalling 927 minutes. He fell out of favour under Claudio Giráldez and will now look to earn more regular football under Julián Calero's management at Oviedo, where he will reunite with former Celta teammate David Costas.

This loan completes Celta's maximum of 6 loan deals to Spanish clubs allowed by the Spanish Football Federation. Hugo Sotelo and Manu Sánchez (Levante), Unai Núñez (Espanyol), Damián Rodríguez (Cádiz) and Carlos Dotor (Málaga) are the other players heading out on loan this summer.
