Manchester City won't give up on Enzo Fernández

Manchester City pursues Chelsea's Argentine midfielder to strengthen their midfield after Rodri's move to Barcelona.

Manchester City continues searching for reinforcements in midfield following Rodri's departure to Barcelona. According to the BBC, the Citizens have already sealed the signing of Ayyoub Bouaddi (18 years old) from Lille for 100 million euros, but that's not enough.

In pursuit of Enzo

Under Enzo Maresca's management, successor to Pep Guardiola, Manchester City maintains strong interest in Enzo Fernández. The Argentine midfielder, 25, plays for Chelsea since January 2023, when he arrived for 121 million euros from Benfica. He holds a contract with the Blues until 2032.

The London club, now managed by Xabi Alonso, does not wish to sell Fernández and hopes he stays at Stamford Bridge until season's end. However, City keeps its ambitions alive for the Argentine, which could turn into a soap opera lasting until the market closes on 1 September.

Manchester City's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield made clear the need to improve midfield. Bouaddi and potentially Enzo Fernández would be City's bets to recover strength in the middle of the park.
