Sangante's blunder gifts Rayo an early lead

The season's first major howler arrived in the second match of the campaign. At the start of Sevilla vs Rayo Vallecano, local centre-back Arouna Sangante made a costly communication error with goalkeeper Vlachodimos.

In the 4th minute, according to Mundo Deportivo, Sangante let the ball roll in the area hoping his keeper would claim it, but the ball slowed before reaching him. When the defender tried to react, Álvaro García pounced, robbing him and finishing into an empty net for 0-1. The Rayo winger was quickest to the loose ball, catching out both Sevilla defenders in one swift move.

Minutes later, Rayo had another clear chance to extend their lead. Sangante's opening blunder left the Pizjuán faithful worried early on, just two matches into the new season.
