Football changes: more VAR and crackdown on time-wasting

The body responsible for football's laws, IFAB, has given the green light to significant changes that will come into effect in the 2026/27 season, according to kicker. The main modifications pursue two goals: tackling the abuse of time-wasting and expanding the scope of VAR.

The new regulations aim to speed up the pace of matches and reduce delaying tactics that slow down play. At the same time, the video assistant referee system will broaden its reach to intervene in more key situations, improving accuracy in refereeing decisions. Clubs and fans will have to adapt to a football with a new rulebook that promises to be more fluid and transparent.
