Racing confirms Agirrezabala was their top target

Racing Santander has confirmed that Julen Agirrezabala was their main target to strengthen their goalkeeper position, according to Mundo Deportivo. However, the Cantabrian club has ultimately ruled out the move.

"Julen was our first choice. The player, his agent, and Athletic itself all know that," Racing's sporting director Chema Aragón stated. He also explained that "I believe this operation is unfeasible under the conditions set by Athletic." The Errenteria keeper trains daily with the Lions but has not been called up by Edin Terzic for Athletic's pre-season friendlies.

Racing are now focusing on alternative targets. Aragón also mentioned they would like to sign players of the caliber of Peio Canales, describing him as a "differential player."
