The Andalusian club announces it will not complete the transfer of the Ecuadorian midfielder due to contractual reasons with Independiente del Valle following his knee injury.
Sevilla have officially announced they will not complete the signing of Patrik Mercado, according to MARCA. The club states the decision is due to "reasons contemplated in the agreements signed with Independiente del Valle", which they have formally notified of this circumstance.
Back in February, both clubs announced a preliminary agreement worth 6 million euros (including bonuses) for the transfer of the Ecuadorian midfielder, a deal that was set to be finalized this summer ahead of the 2026-27 season. However, the move ultimately did not go through.
The injury proved decisive. In March, Mercado suffered a double rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and medial meniscus in his right knee during an Independiente del Valle match. The agreement between clubs included clauses allowing Sevilla to rescind the deal based on the results of a medical examination, which is exactly what has now happened.
