Sporting in talks with Venezia over Antonio Casas

Sporting has set Antonio Casas as the final piece to complete their forward line in this transfer window. According to Sport, the Gijon club has already made contact with both Venezia and the player himself, who is keen on the possibility of continuing his career at El Molinón.

Operation in the balance

Casas, a 26-year-old Spanish striker formed in Real Madrid's youth academy with a spell at Sevilla, was one of Córdoba's top scorers in the Spanish second division last season, with 10 goals in 39 matches. However, his adventure at Venezia, where he signed in July with a contract through June 2028, has not taken off: he has managed just 23 league appearances with 3 goals and is not in Venezia's plans for the coming campaign.

The main stumbling block is the economic structure of the deal. Venezia prefers a loan with compensation over an outright release, but Casas's salary in Italy is high for Sporting's budget. If Gijon were to assume the full wage bill, the Córdoba native would rank among their best-paid players.

Furthermore, competition for the forward also works against them: other Spanish and Italian clubs are also pursuing him, so Sporting is patiently waiting to see how negotiations develop in the coming days.
