Sporting hunting for centre-back and striker as market closes in

Sporting Gijón faces the final weeks of the transfer window with work still to do. According to Sport, the Asturian club aims to seal two more signings—a centre-back and a forward—plus secure the departure of Yann Kembo, with Huesca keen on the French winger.

Initial optimism was halted when Álex Forés, their primary attacking target, chose to join Burgos after days of deliberation. The Valencia man had generated expectations with 16 goals and four assists last season. Now Sporting broadens their striker hunt, prioritising a more mobile, creative forward mainly from the Spanish market. Manager Larcamón suggested one signing could arrive this week.

At the back, Andrés Cuenca remains the priority, though the Como ownership change is complicating his return to Gijón. The young centre-back showed solid performances in under ten appearances during his previous spell. Sporting trust in the deal and are willing to wait for the Italian club's decision on the player's future, which they are reconsidering following an impressive preseason.
