Flick names Raphinha Barcelona captain

FC Barcelona has found its captain for the upcoming season. Hansi Flick has designated Raphinha to wear the armband, as the German manager confirmed to L'Équipe. The Brazilian becomes the team's leader following the departure of two captains from the previous campaign.

Flick explained that the current unavailability of Frenkie de Jong was decisive in his choice. The coach felt that the Dutch midfielder's absence could prove detrimental when selecting a captain, so he opted for Raphinha as the safer option heading into the season.

A provisional decision

However, Flick clarified that this designation could be revisited. According to the manager, a vote will take place when the transfer window closes and the squad is complete, to confirm or change the decision. The final choice will therefore depend on the group's assessment once all players are available and the team's definitive configuration is known.
