The French striker and Lille captain was forced off in the 23rd minute of a pre-season friendly against Everton after suffering a left knee injury.
Olivier Giroud had to leave the pitch in the 23rd minute of Lille's final pre-season match against Everton on Saturday in Liverpool. The experienced French forward, 39 years old and LOSC captain, suffered a violent blow to his left knee following a collision with Senegalese striker Iliman Ndiaye in the 15th minute.
Although Giroud attempted to continue, according to *L'Équipe*, the pain was too intense. At the 23-minute mark, he sat down on the pitch and requested a substitution, leaving the field limping and visibly concerned. Young Soriba Diaoune (19 years old) replaced him in attack. The former French international, 2018 World Cup winner with 137 caps to his name, will turn 40 on September 30th.
